Guatemalan cortes from the Quetzaltenango department are renowned for their jaspe patterns, which illustrate the exceptional skill of the local weavers.

This Quetzaltenango corte took double the work to make, as it features both warp and weft jaspe details. Each white section was tied to prevent it absorbing the rich indigo dye into which the threads are dipped before weaving.

Guatemalan cortes - skirts - are typically constructed of a long piece of fabric, stitched together at the ends to form a tube shape. You can wear it as a wraparound skirt, as the indigenous Mayan women in Guatemala do (and have done for centuries), display it on the wall or even use it as an exceptionally stylish beach or picnic blanket.
